Urea Prills provide an effective, mess-free solution for melting ice and frost on pedestrian surfaces while offering a safer, non-corrosive alternative to traditional rock salt. Commonly used in agriculture as a high-nitrogen fertiliser, urea is also well suited for winter maintenance where surface protection, pet safety, and reduced corrosion are priorities. Unlike rock salt, urea does not corrode concrete, metal, vehicles, railings, or tools, making it ideal for use in sensitive areas. The uniform prilled form spreads easily, dissolves cleanly, and leaves no gritty residue behind.

How It Works

Urea lowers the freezing point of water, allowing ice and frost to soften and break down for easy removal. As it dissolves, it creates a liquid brine that helps prevent re-freezing when applied correctly.

How to Use

1. Apply evenly by hand or with a standard spreader. 2. Use light, even coverage — more product does not mean faster melting. 3. For best results, apply before ice fully bonds to the surface or at the first sign of frost. 4. Allow time for the ice to soften, then brush or shovel away slush if required. 5. Reapply only if conditions persist.

Typical application rate:

Light frost: ~20–30 g per m². Heavier ice: ~40–60 g per m². (Always adjust based on conditions and surface type.)

Effective Temperature Range

Works down to approximately –7°C (20°F). Best performance between 0°C and –5°C. Ideal for light to moderate frost and ice conditions
